Substance Misuse

A hand holding a needleWhat the 2004 Audit told us

  • Information regarding drug misuse in North Lincolnshire shows that over the last few years, the number of drug offences has increased, the number of drug users has increased and the number receiving drug treatment has increased
  • It is estimated that there are up to 2,500 problematic drug users in North Lincolnshire
  • Nearly 500 drug users received structured drug treatment in 2003/4
  • About half of all recorded drug offences for North Lincolnshire were recorded in the Town ward
  • Nearly half of all those people charged by the police for a drug offence or offence where property is obtained (i.e shoplifting) tests positive for recent drug use

What we are doing

We are operating a DIP to develop and integrate measures for directing adult drug misusing offenders out of crime and into early treatment.

We have developed a strategy to deal with prolific offenders - Prolific Offenders.

We are carrying out enforcement action against known drug offenders.

We are meeting national targets for drugs treatment and support.

We are delivering a comprehensive drug education programme in schools throughout North Lincolnshire.
